What is a Bank PO or a Bank Probationary Officer: 


Bank PO is a the name of the managerial level post offered in various PSU Banks in India. The form form of PO is Probationary Officer. Bank PO is a entry level managerial bank job.

Why is it called a Probationary Officer: 

Generally PSU Banks given 1-2 years, on-the-job, training when they hire personnel at entry level. This training it is multi-function training and it covers training on all aspects of banking functions including - Credit, Loans, Operations, Investments, Forex &  Equity etc. So, during this training period, banks give this Probationary Officer designation.

What is the designation given after the completion of probation period : 

Generally banks give Assistant Manager (AM) or Deputy Manager (DM) designation after the completion of probation period.

Can banks fire me within probation period or as a probationary officer: 

For banks it is just a training period. If training is not completed within time, generally banks give more time (extended) to clear the probation.

What is the salary of Bank PO: 

Salary of Bank PO (or Probationary Officer) is in the range of 25,000-35,000 which depends from Bank to Bank and location of posting. The highest salary is being offered by SBI and salary of a SBI PO is generally between Rs.35,000-Rs.60,000 depending from city to city.
